Story
The Tech Hub - Creating a digital future
What is The Tech Hub?
The Tech Hub is a Community Interest Company (CIC) which offers training and donations of computer equipment to those suffering from digital poverty.
We take donations of unwanted tech from businesses and individuals. The equipment is wiped of any data, and repaired, refurbished, and rebuilt. Items we are able to donate include laptops, desktops, mobile phones, and tablets.
So far we have donated 847 laptops, tablets and phones to those in need.
Our aims:
• To encourage and support education in technology to everyone without regard to their race, color, or national origin.
• To offer access to computer equipment to anyone suffering from digital poverty.
• To promote and educate the community in recycling old technology, so it can be re-used rather than end up in a landfill.
• To train and educate individuals within our community on how to repair and refurbish tech that would otherwise be deemed for landfill.
• To offer access to computer equipment to the wider community at low to no cost.
How your donation will help?
It costs us approximately £50 to repair and refurbish one laptop.
Any monetary donation will go towards covering the costs:
• of repairing, refurbishing, and rebuilding devices
• packaging and posting costs
• staff
• supporting and training people
Some quotes from our donation receivers
"The computers enable us to give young people & visitors who don’t have computers or the internet at home a chance to complete tasks they wouldn’t be able to do."
"I’m just writing to say a huge thank you once again for the laptops you donated this Spring. I have just returned from Ghana, and they really have made a massive difference already for our team on the ground. I attach a short impact report and thank you, with a message from our Director of Operations, and a few pictures of the laptops in use!"
"I would like to thank you on behalf of Community at 67 and all its users for the incredible work you have done in refurbishing all of our laptops. We are a small community hub in Keynsham, near Bath and, like all small charities, we struggle to find funding to pay running costs, let alone replace essential assets such as our laptops.
We had reached a crisis point with the laptops around 6 years old. When your offer came in to completely refurbish all laptops, replace worn-out or broken parts, and install more memory, we were utterly blown away! It answered our prayers because we had no idea where we would find the funding to replace them."
"These laptops will allow ladies at our Route 66 workshops to improve their computer skills and write CVs and letters. We can’t thank you enough."
"A massive thank you to our friends at Green Machine who, in recognition of their 10-year anniversary, awarded 10 schools with a free laptop. St Michael’s was selected as one of these schools and we were very excited to get our hands on it today! It will be used to make a huge difference to children in school who find writing really tough!"
