Hi!

My name is Andy Forsyth, and my original plan was to push the Chester Marathon in my manual wheelchair to raise vital funds for three incredible organisations that have had a profound impact on my life and the lives of my loved ones.

Unfortunately, I suffered a broken leg which has meant that I have had to pull out. However, I have come up with an alternative challenge, which is to do 100 miles (160.934km) throughout November instead, whether I am pushing along various routes or on a SkiERG in my local GymWorks. I will record my distances on a weekly basis using a Distance Tracking app.

This challenge is not just physical—it’s deeply personal.

🏥 Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

Born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, I spent much of my childhood in Alder Hey, undergoing multiple surgeries and battling serious complications. On more than one occasion, the quick actions of their doctors saved my life.

Alder Hey didn’t just look after me—they were there for my family too, offering support during those long, difficult hospital stays.

If you’ve ever had a poorly child, chances are you’ve witnessed the incredible care Alder Hey provides firsthand.

🧠 About The Town CIC – Skelmersdale

In later life, I struggled with my mental health and reached one of the lowest points I’ve ever experienced. That’s when Social Prescribing led me to Bev Roberts at About The Town CIC.

Thanks to Social Prescribing and Bev, and the support of my friends and family, I rebuilt my confidence, regained my self-worth, and found purpose as a journalist for our community magazine—utilising my degree and giving back through storytelling and support.

But we’re not just a magazine. We’re a lifeline for many in Skelmersdale, offering a range of activities, initiatives and services as a means of reducing social isolation, improving mental wellbeing and combating food and fuel poverty:

We’re passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where no one feels alone or forgotten. But as a not-for-profit, we rely on donations from the public and funding to keep our doors open—especially in the face of rising costs.

I am determined and passionate about ensuring that we can continue the valuable work we do in our community.

❤️ Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital

This world-class hospital has saved the lives of three of my family members—one diagnosed with a hole in the heart around 30 years ago, and more recently one who underwent a double bypass and the third family member underwent a 9-hour quintuple bypass following a heart attack.

Thanks to Liverpool Heart & Chest, they are still with us today. Their work changes and saves lives every single day—and I want to help them continue doing just that.

🎯 My Goal

I’m aiming to raise £3000 or more, split between these three organisations. It’s ambitious, yes — but I truly believe each of them deserves this support.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps.

Together, we can ensure that these organisations keep making a difference—for people like me, and for countless others.
