10 people, 10 months, 10 races - The Wilson 10, for Tom and G.
Tom Wilson, aged 22, died on the 9th of December 2015, after a training ground accident at his Hockey club Old Loughtonians. He suffered a traumatic subarachnoid brain haemorrhage after a blow to the head by a stick.
As the family considered organ donation they were informed he signed up as a fresher at Nottingham Trent University, allowing Tom to selflessly donate his organs to 20 other recipients.
What makes this especially sad is that Tom's Dad 'G' Graham, Daily Express and Hockey Writer suddenly died just over 2 months later. G was a lifelong member of Havering Hockey Club in Essex, over his many years at the club he held various roles which included xx years as President. Tom and sister Pippa grew up watching mum Lisa and G playing at Coopers School in Upminster before going onto the minis and junior sections within the club themselves.
G was respected and known widely within hockey circles none more so than at Havering, he would regularly frequent the bar on a Saturday evening with his big smile greeting everyone that walked through the door saying "is it my round again'. G is the reason many children get to enjoy the family environment of Havering Hockey club and the reason many current payers are still at the club today.
The Wilson 10 is made up of Havering members, Alex Semon, Catherine Semon, Emily Gilkes-Tarsey, Katie Griggs, Alastair Lewis, Alex Defroand, Alex Lee, Michael Hinton, Paul Johnson and sister Pippa Wilson. The hope is to raise lots of money for Tom's charity and to continue he's legacy that quite rightly continues to grow, we hope that we can make them both proud.
The Tom Wilson Memorial Fund was set up to raise money for various donor organisations, concussion research and England Hockey related sporting charities. All money raised will go to the fund, any donation would be greatly appreciated.
