Story
My name is Christian Reihill and I am in the Sixth Form at Charterhouse School.
This summer I spent a month doing work experience in Ireland. Initially I worked for a fantastic charity called Barretstown which runs camps for children and families living with serious illnesses. I then worked at a stockbrokers and on my last day I was presented with my very first pay cheque for €100.
I have been fortunate to attend tennis camps run by Pepe Imaz in Marbella. Pepe is an inspirational man who has coached Novak Djokovic and helps children from local families with limited resources to attend his camps.
Following my experiences at Barretstown and Pepe’s tennis camps, I began to think how I could best use my first earnings to give local children the opportunity to play tennis using the amazing facilities which we have at school.
Each summer a company called Premier Tennis runs tennis camps at Charterhouse and would like to raise £3,500 to send 20 local primary school children to one of their camps for a week over summer 2019.
My idea is to encourage my fellow students to donate any money earned from work experience as I have done and to then persuade their friends and family to match that amount. I have already personally secured 9 pledges raising €900 on top of my initial €100 earnings.
I will be approaching local primary schools to encourage children to apply for the free places, liaising with Premier Tennis and Charterhouse School and driving the fund raising initiative.
Any funds raised over the target amount will be put towards a summer 2020 camp. I intend to hand this initiative over to younger Charterhouse students in the future hopefully creating a self- perpetuating charity.
If anyone else would like to also donate to this fantastic cause, please do give what you can in any currency. Every little helps!
