    Story

The Anna Wilkinson Mockingbird Trust is a brand new charity set up in October 2016, in memory of Anna Kate Wilkinson. Named for Anna's favourite book, aims to organise trips and events for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. At a time when even the shortest expedition can be difficult to arrange, the Trust plans to offer unique, tailored trips where the transport, food and cost is all taken care of so that the family can just enjoy being together.

Early in the Summer of 2014 when Anna was 14, in her first year of GCSE study, eager to go to university and study medicine, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

Uncomplaining, she continued studying, smiling and arranging fun events for family and friends for which she was known and loved.

Under the care of Birmingham Children's Hospital, Anna had 6 weeks of radiotherapy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham which shrunk the tumour. She then started cycles of Chemotherapy to try and eradicate it.

Despite her courageous battle, the treatment was unsuccessful. In January 2016, aged 16, Anna died at home, surrounded by her family.

Anna is loved by everyone and had the rare and extraordinary ability to make each person feel special. Her smile lights up every room, and she always goes out of her way to cheer her friends and family up. More than this she took special delight in seeing her loved ones enjoying themselves.

Therefore, our first endeavour as a charity is to organise The Mockingbird Ball 2017 - a night of glitz and glamour to celebrate Anna's 18th birthday and to raise money for the trust. The money we raise here will be put towards paying for the expenses of putting on such an event, most notably the hire of a marquee fit for the occasion.

The ball will function as the charity launch, and we need your support in making it as successful as possible so that we can reach and help more children with life-limiting illnesses.
