Story

Christians Against Poverty is a national debt counselling charity with a network of 300 centres based in local churches. CAP offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in-depth service.

CAP aims to show God’s love in action by providing sustainable poverty relief through debt counselling, advice and practical help. CAP’s unique ‘hands on’ approach empowers people to help themselves out of poverty and be released from the fear, oppression and worry generated by overwhelming debts. We are providing sustainable poverty relief as our service teaches clients vital budgeting skills that will last a lifetime.

The charity operates through a growing network of UK centres, all opened in partnership with a local church. CAP began in 1996 when John Kirkby, armed with a £10 donation, started to help people in his local community who were trapped in debt.

The Liverpool South CAP Debt Centre, is one of over 300 local centres that partner with CAP. The centre operates from Long Lane church in Garston Liverpool, who partner with three other churches in the local community to provide CAP's award winning debt counselling for local people.

Lisa and Martin are married and love walking and originally started walking in Australia as a way to lose weight. Lisa has lost 5 stone, mostly through combining dieting and walking, and together they have both walked miles between them in in every country they've visited. Wanting to push each other to do something BIG to raise money for their local Debt Centre, of which Lisa is the Centre Manager , they decided to do it by walking the 130 miles of the Angelsey Coastal Path in 9 days.
