Story

Theatre Alba intends to perform a series of outdoor promenade shows with an ecological theme for children.

Theatre Alba and Clunie Mackenzie, the writer and director of the shows are passionate about getting children out of their classrooms and houses to see for themselves what a wonderful world we all live in, and how we must look after it and stop irresponsible, greedy and stupid people from destroying it.

We have tried to get funding from Creative Scotland and other sources, but unfortunately have received none. So, we are asking you to help us out, as we need to raise £1500 so that our show can go on, and we can pay our bills: Programme, Licence, Insurance, Posters and leaflets, accountants’ fees. Our professional actors are on profit share, so will be paid from what we make at the box office after the bills have been paid.

We make every effort to maintain sustainability in the company. We use no lights as we perform outside, we even use recycled paper for our scripts and programmes. Our costumes and props are bought from charity shops, re-used from other shows, or borrowed. We are a local company, so very little travel is incurred except by bus, with the odd car journey for transporting props and costumes.

A production performed in 2013 was shortlisted for the Fringe Sustainability Practice award and was considered one of the most outstanding entries. Our 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe performance won the Primary Times Children's Choice Award.

Theatre Alba is a charity, number SCO23791, registered in Scotland.
