Story

These are indeed strange times. Around the world, we are all facing new and unforeseen challenges. Many of us are stuck at home, separated from our friends and family, or working jobs where we feel at risk. We are worried about our health, or the health and wellbeing of our loved ones.

Those at The Beehive are facing these challenges, too. Our girls, who live across two households and are used to seeing each other several times a week, can no longer do so. They cannot go out to school, or leave the compound to exercise. Like most developing countries, Kenya's healthcare system is not equipped to deal with a pandemic. Many of the girls are concerned for their safety and worried about their families.

We are contending with other challenges, too. Economic uncertainty means that some of our long-term donors have been forced to suspend their financial support. While we understand and respect the difficult decisions that have been taken, we are unfortunately left with a monthly shortfall of over £500 per month. In real terms, that's a month's rent, and utlities, for one of our two houses, or an entire month's food for everyone at The Beehive.

These are financially uncertain times; but for some of us, staying at homes means that we are saving money on fuel, transport costs and normal social activities. If this applies to you, we want to ask you to consider supporting The Beehive with a one-off or monthly gift, to help us meet this shortfall and keep everyone healthy, happy and safe.

The Beehive receives no government funding, and is entirely funded by our global community of loyal supporters. With every gift, you help us to transform the lives of the child mothers and their children who make up The Beehive family. In uneasy, uncertain times, your gift will absolutely make a difference.
