Story

We want children in care and care leavers to know that they are not alone and that we care about them... so please show your support for this event on 25th September 2021

We will be taking 500 children in care, foster families, and care leavers to Nightflix Drive in Cinema in Newark. We will have the whole place just for us. Lots of food, drinks, and surprises.

My dream is that this event is so succesful and our young people feel valued. If this event works, then we will run at least 10 next year all at the same time in different cities. Please help us make that happen.

Inspiration

We want all our children in care and care leavers to be inspired at this event and want you to send us messages of support for our children. We want them to know that they have so much to offer and that is why we chose this film.

In the Heights !

In Loving Memory of Helen Blackman

Most of the children coming to this event are coming from Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils. Helen first worked at Nottinghamshire County Council and eventually become the Director of Children’s Social Care at Nottingham City Council.

She was well loved and everyone feels the loss. We asked her family if we could do this in her memory and they said yes.

When Helen passed away Councillor David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council said: “Helen worked tirelessly to support our children in care and those waiting to be fostered or adopted. She knew many of them well and retained huge amounts of detail about their circumstances. Helen always conducted herself with great integrity and did what she felt was right.

“But more than that, she was a lovely person with a wonderful smile and a contagious laugh who dedicated her life to helping children. I feel privileged to have known and worked with her, and my most heartfelt condolences are with Helen’s family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.”
