We are raising funds to develop Birmingham Music Museum — the first museum dedicated solely to celebrating, preserving and sharing Birmingham's musical heritage. The project is being developed as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) established to deliver the museum for public and community benefit (company number: 17380058 ).
The museum will aim to tell stories from across Birmingham's diverse communities and generations — from internationally recognised artists to the venues, promoters, record shops, studios, fans and grassroots musicians who have helped create the city's musical identity.
Our initial crowdfunding target is £1500 and the money raised will be used to help us take the next practical steps towards establishing the museum. This will include: developing exhibitions and hosting a pop-up event, identifying, recording and preserving important objects, stories and memorabilia, digital and multimedia content, community engagement and educational activities, professional, technical and project-development costs required to move the museum forward.
Launching our first pop-up involves gathering key assets like core exhibits, display panels, vinyl cases, stationery, craft supplies, and AV equipment (projector and speakers). We will also secure public liability insurance, manage ticketing, and handle the transport of our memorabilia. To promote the event, we will design and print a dedicated tour programme magazine and launch a marketing campaign spanning social media, flyers, banners, posters, and signage. The budget also includes the full cost of securing a high-profile guest for this event.
We estimate the total expenditure for this event will come to £1500.
We will keep supporters updated on our progress and on how crowdfunding income is being used.
