Story

💖 In February 2018, our friends Michelle, Tara & Skylar lost their beautiful 16 year old daughter & sister, Addie. 💖

Addie’s family celebrated what would be her 21st birthday in October ‘22 & in 2023 are organising 21 events in Addie’s name. 💖

Michelle Brady, Addie's mum, founded “the Addie Brady Foundation” soon after losing Addie. The Foundation supports much needed research into high grade paediatric brain tumours with the hope of finding a cure and better treatment for childhood brain cancer. In addition, it supports further study, awareness and support for families with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS), here is the website:

https://www.addiebradyfoundation.com/

We are five friends, out of an amazing tribe of over 20 wonderful humans, who joined Addie’s family and friends to embark on 100kms of the Camino de Santiago - this was an opportunity for us to take part in an amazing pilgrimage whilst raising funds for something dear to our hearts, which will make a real difference to the lives of those in need as part of the #21Events

The Camino Trail - also called the ‘route of the stars’ because it lies beneath the Milky Way, takes pilgrims along the beautiful and peaceful countryside across the north of Spain. The end point is the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

We are hoping to match Michelle's initial aim to raise £21k and ALL profits raised will go straight to The Addie Brady Foundation.

We have been organising many fabulous events (so look out for more than the originally planned #21events), to help raise funds, prior to, and after our amazing trek - it was way more than just a spiritual journey, it was a challlenge, in Addie’s memory, which brought us laughter, tears, and so much love, with old friends and new and of course Addie’s amazing family.

Our initial fundraising page expired just after we arrived back from our Camino pilgrimage, we hadn't been checking our emails doh or we would have extended it... whoops! 💖 The initial page had raised an amazing £2,388 💖 which we will include in the final figures for our fundraising - we are still hoping to smash £21k - every donations gets us a step closer - we have started this new page to collect the last of our donations

Addie’s story by her sister Skylar:

“We lost my sister Addie to an aggressive and brutal brain tumour. Addie was only 16 years old. Cancer came in to her young life in 2011 when she was 9. Addie was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, spending a year in hospital with chemo and surgery to remove her tibia bone. She recovered and we all breathed a sigh of relief having beaten the beast. Sadly however, this was only the beginning. In late 2016, Addie woke up and was unable to speak or communicate. She was rushed into hospital by ambulance and tests later revealed devastating news. Addie had a high grade, inoperable, aggressive brain tumour. More, shockingly, the brain tumour was a primary cancer unrelated to the first cancer”

Genetic testing revealed Addie had Li Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) usually an inherited familial predisposition to the disease.

Research into Paediatric Brain Tumours is hugely underfunded.

Brain tumours are brutal, they devastate the lives of many and leave behind a trail of destruction - this needs to change. 🙏🏼

The Camino Ladies are aiming to raise their own whopping £21,000 by organising as many of our own fabulous events as we can with all of our profits going straight to The Addie Brady Foundation. 💖
