Story
The Chippy Larder is raising funds to help with operating costs and to purchase essentials for those in need. We are a not for profit organisation.
The Chippy Larder was formed in March 2020 by Rizvana Poole with the intent of providing Chipping Norton with a community food larder. The Covid 19 crisis hit and The Chippy Larder became a distributor for SOFEA free of charge food boxes. Between 20th March and 28th August, 9028 SOFEA food boxes alongside many additional items from local shops were distributed to 644 different homes in Chipping Norton and the surrounding area.
SOFEA are a registered charity based in Didcot, who partner with Fareshare to redistribute surplus food from supermarkets and suppliers, helping community organisations and preventing surplus food from going into landfill.
From 1st September 2020 The Chippy Larder has hosted a community larder in The Guildhall for SOFEA members to obtain food at a low cost whilst reducing food waste. Members pay a monthly administration fee to SOFEA for this service, The Chippy Larder does not receive any payment and relies on volunteers and the generosity of donations.
In addition The Chippy Larder sources food and other essentials from shops and organisations within Chipping Norton to distribute free of charge to those who need them.
The Chippy Larder is currently a constituted small organisation with a board of 6 trustees who oversee all donations and spending (further information is available on request). We are in the process of converting to a CIO and hope to be registered with The Charity Commission in the not too distant future.
The Chippy Larder plans to provide the local community with so much more than surplus food and our mission is to assist our local community in the areas of Food, Finance, Fitness & Futures, elevating our community with a hand up, not a hand out.
Currently, in addition to the food larder, we are working on...
Providing Christmas gifts for children to those families who are financially struggling.
Providing free of charge food over the holidays for families who are experiencing hardship.
Providing assistance and guidance in reducing utility bills .
