Story

We believe in the power of Community, building back better for nature. Creating a Conscious Fashion Lab for the South East. Conscious Lab is a celebration of fashion, art, textiles, music and creative communities coming together through nature prescribing.
Our next event is also at Stanmer Park in Brighton, Sunday 21st May, where we will be at the first ever Sustainability festival in Stanmer Park at the One Garden. Come along and say hello, make a pledge for nature and join us as at a free workshop to customise your threads. A textile based workshop which will be aimed at young people with older people also welcome as we work together to customise clothing with fabric paints, embroidery threads, creativity and imagination inspired by the natural world around us. Sharing our vision for the future come along and make a pledge on our wishing line of poems for the future and plant trees with us. Suggested donation £2.50 per pledge and get involved in our free customisation workshop in the day. Bring along a favourite denim jacket to embellish or sweatshirt!
In collaboration with Soho Beach House Brighton. “The first Conscious Fashion 4Nature Event” took place on the Spring Equinox March 21st World Tree Day and is the brainchild of Sustainable Fashion Director Sarah Ratty FRSA, the premiere UK fashion designer to actively address sustainability in the early 1990s. Together with Georgina Hooper Sustainable Lead at GBMC and Racheal Taylor at Brighton University Fashion Media Communications.
The Conscious Fashion Show is the start of a series of brand new South East based fashion event's which place the environment and community at its heart, to raise funds for planting trees and hedgerows via the South Downs Trust in collaboration with Stanmer Organics. Our follow up event to our launch at Soho House will be based at Platfrm9 in Hove with opportunities for the fashion community to come together with a series of talks and workshops to put the environment first.
Our launch Conscious Fashion Show event at Soho House 21st March Spring Equinox has been a brilliant start to our campaign and we have raised nearly £3000 so far! Alongside well known sustainable fashion brands on the runway and via silent auction, with archive Y2k items from Conscious Earthwear, current collection Finisterre, ilk & Ernie, Gresham Blake, Nkwo, Noki, Rebound, Sophie Darling and vintage from Hope & Harlequin. Modelled by influencers including Fusion, Scarlett Fae, Rosie Devine, Woody Cook. Fellow collaborators include multi-media artist and musical director Davey Williams aka Equal-I and digital artist Iona Scott from Discospharea. The event has raised seed funds from RSA to cover some cost and via this fundraiser which is open for a few more months with funds raised from the fashion show with the opportunity to bid on outfits in the show, with additional lots gifted from artists, The Postman, Vampires Wife, Circus School, Physic Garden Project, and a soft launch of our fundraising organic cotton sweats and tees, from RealWildMe for the Conscious Lab 23. We hope to bring new events and another auction soon.
The aim of the Conscious Fashion Events is to put back a connection with nature into the heart of fashion world, partnering with the South Downs Trust and Stanmer Organics to support the woodlands around Stanmer park and Sussex tree planting initiative “Trees for the Downs”. Due to the alarming ash die back which is devastating the local forests a direct result of the rise in temperatures.
Working with local communities at Stanmer Organics to plant trees to create a native hedgerow to re-create lost vital habitat for native species and a border to protect the nature park and increase biodiversity in the 17 acres of community park projects. Raising funds in collaboration with Stanmer Organics, The Physic Garden Project and Trees for the Downs with South Downs Trust with support from students at Brighton University Fashion Communications, and Racheal Taylor from podcast Shapers of Society. Together with Georgina Hooper from GBMC College, together we have created the Conscious Lab to curate further events and projects within our communities.
The opportunity for volunteers and sponsors to physically plant a legacy of trees locally with Stanmer Organics and the Sussex Downs Trust will take place in Autumn 2023 and with further Conscious Fashion Lab events planned.
