    Story

Enfield Disability Action - The Deaf Project has lost a significant amount of its funding from Enfield Council. This will have a huge impact on Enfield's Deaf community.

Due to communication barriers, many Deaf people struggle to access services including advice and information that hearing
people take for granted. Simple things like arranging a GP appointment is more difficult as a British Sign Language (BSL)
Interpreter is needed. Statistics show that the health of Deaf people is worse than those who are hearing and they generally have a
    reduced life expectancy.
The Deaf Project staff use BSL and work with and on behalf of Deaf people to ensure they have full access to services. The Deaf
project works with organisations to help achieve their statutory obligations through engagement and consultation with this isolated
community. Enfield Council have cut funding to this vital service without any consultation on how these cuts will affect the Deaf
community and have not offered suitable alternatives.
