    Story

    We made it

A massive achievement for everyone involved

Just a quick update to say that the team successfully navigated their way around Morecambe Bay in less than 21 hours. A massive achievement for everyone involved - the runners but also the support crew, helpers, drivers, sponsors, parents, families and friends of the school, and the children who turned out on Saturday morning to run a two mile stretch. The event would not have been such a success without the involvement of everyone mentioned here; as well those not mentioned who played a part.

You can still sponsor those who took part in the run on this page until the end of October. All donations will help massively towards raising enough funds to build the new classroom and help Storth School support the next generation.

    Many thanks.

    About the Appeal

...this single building can change lives for a whole generation of children

At Storth School, we see ourselves as a family, a family which over the years has grown quite considerably. It’s only by nurturing each individual that we can all keep running in the same direction and with your help, we can continue to do this even as our numbers grow.

In 2014, we had 28 pupils. Today, five years later that number has risen to 71. If we are to continue giving the same superb quality of individual care and education, we need to build a new classroom. We have the space beside the playground and we have parents willing to help - builders, plasterers, electricians and plumbers.

This single building can improve lives for a whole generation of children, but we can only do it with your donations and with your active participation in our fundraising events.

Please, support this fundraising event - one of many taking place, and help us reach our target of £4,000, contributing towards the £20,000 overall cost of the new classroom.

    About the Run

...a 110 mile journey on foot through some of the most iconic landscapes around Morecambe Bay

The Edgelands Run is a 110 mile journey on foot around Morecambe Bay, starting in Fleetwood, Lancashire and finishing on Walney Island off the coast of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. It passes through some of the most iconic landscapes that shape the lives of the people living and working around the Bay.

The Run is inspired by the book The Gathering Tide by Karen Lloyd , a Cumbrian-based author and environmentalist, which tells of stories of the places, people, wildlife and history of Morecambe Bay through walks and memories of the landscapes and ever-changing seascapes of the Bay.

On the 28th Sept 2019, a team including teachers, parents and friends of Storth School will attempt to complete the run in less than 24 hours in a PTA event to help raise funds towards a new classroom, which will enable the School to continue to nurture their growing number of pupils.

The route will be run in five legs, each averaging over 20 miles, by two or three runners per leg - Fleetwood to Glasson Dock, Glasson Dock to The Wolf House Gallery, The Wolf House Gallery to Grange Lido, Grange Lido to Conishead Priory and Conishead Priory to Walney Nature Reserve.

Please, sponsor those taking part and support Storth School in nurturing and inspiring the next generation.

    The Route

I can do it ...at least, I can do it on paper

Covering an area of 310 sq km, Morecambe Bay is the largest continual area of salt marsh and seashore flats in England. Home to a staggering variety of rare wildlife, birds, butterflies and plants that connect the people to the landscape.
