I've raised £5000 to launch “The First Night Fund”, a non-profit community organisation supporting victims of Domestic Abuse on day one of leaving their abuser.

Story

We want to provide funding for one-off, one night hotel stays for victims of Domestic Abuse who are in immediate danger but who don’t have the time or resource to find safe accommodation in the moment of crisis.

This funding is targeted at professionals who are working with victims of Domestic Abuse who are in immediate danger but who cannot be immediately accommodated. It particularly aims to benefit single women with no children who don’t have the same access to social funding as women with children (who can usually be accommodated by their local authority if their children are deemed to be at risk because of the situation). The funds will be provided directly to the professional or the accomodation, not directly to the victim.

Victims are making the huge first step of leaving their abuser, but if it is too late in the day, or too complex to find refuge or safe accomodation, some are being forced to return home.

“Why don’t you just leave?”

Sometimes, there is just nowhere else to go.

£5,000 will accomodate around 50 victims for that first night, giving them a small but vital window of time to get a safety plan in place. It would also enable us to register as a charity formally if we can raise this amount over the next 12 months. Until we have a sustainable pot of money, we won’t be able to start helping victims. Please help!
