Weʼve raised £7,390 to help support those in Freetown who have been affected by the recent tragic flooding and mud slide.

    Story

Sierra Leone is a beautiful country and Freetown is a bright, vibrant capital city filled with the kindest people you could wish to meet. They are also some of the strongest. The recent tragic flooding and mud slide is the latest tragedy to hit them. It has devastated some of the poorest communities and has already killed hundreds with thousands being declared homeless.

As Freetown is Hull's twinned city, the aim of this fundraising is to help support those who have lost everything. We are working with our sister organisation, the Hull Society, to target those in need. Funds will be sent directly to our colleagues in Freetown who will purchase what is required to help.

The Freetown Society and this fundraising effort is supported by Hull City Council, Canon Neal Barnes of Hull Minster, The Sierra Leone Association based in Hull as well as Hull schools with partnerships in Freetown.

We have been overwhelmed with the generosity and support from everyone who has donated to and shared this fundraising page. We are currently discussing options with our sister organisation in Freetown in terms of how best to spend the money so that the impact can be immediate and effective. Now that we have gone over £4000, we have a range of options available and so will keep all updated throughout the process. Thanks again and please do keep on donating and sharing!
