When my 12 year old daughter Izzy Mullins was heartbreakingly made a target of a bully at school she decided to fight back, not physically or verbally but the only way she knows how - raising awareness and showing solidarity that this behaviour will not be tolerated and if everyone that was a victim to these bullies stand together as one the goodness overpowers the bad. It made Izzy realise that it is very tough being a teenager, children can be very mean and they can also have a lot of other issues to face when growing up too. She wanted to turn her negative experience into a positive and came up with #theheartproject. She shared it on social media to raise awareness that although you may be dealing with difficult issues that you are not alone and we should all hold our heads up and stand together. She encouraged everyone to draw a heart on their hand and share the hashtag. Within just one day 85 people including teachers had participated and shown solidarity!! She was so overwhelmed by the support and that she too wasn’t alone in facing these difficult moments of growing up! So I suggested that she continues with it and see where it will go!! She will be raising money by selling wristbands, cakes and a non-uniform day at school. With the money raised she will be organising various events to ring everyone together, maybe children that wouldn’t usually attend such events due to feeling isolated and encouraging new friendships. The first event will be a disco with all proceeds going back into The Heart Project kitty ready for the next even bigger event. A very very generous supplier of mine has donated the wristbands for her, my colleague has agreed to be the DJ at the disco and also feature it on his radio station. She has done all of this off her own back and the fact that she has done this despite having to deal with her own problems at school just astonishes and inspires me. We have not only raised a beautiful princess we have raised a little warrior - We love her so very much!! After sharing her story on social media a lot of people asked if they could donate so we set up this page, if the money raised exceeds what is required w are planning to purchase something that can be used in school or to help start a Youth Club.
