I've raised £2500 to add to the restoration fund for Steam Tug Brent. £25,000 is needed as match funding. Maldon Ride is hoping to raise 10% of this.

An amazing idea!
Ian has organised the Maldon Ride; a sponsored cycle ride from London, The Albert Dock, where Brent spent the last years of her working life, to The Hythe, Maldon, where Brent has been based since she ceased work in 1970.
Cycle the Maldon Ride for Steam Tug Brent, autumn 2019
If you want to join in you can get Ian's contact details through email. info@steamtugbrent.org
He will provide details of start time, mile by mile route detail information and sponsorship forms.
The ride will follow designated cycle routes and mainly minor roads. There is a route map
Brent is nearly 70 years old and is now showing her age. Like many other historic vessels, she has reached a point in her life where she now needs major works and funding to allow her to survive long term as a working example of maritime heritage.
We want to restore the boat in full, so that she can carry passengers and give people experience in the engine room, in the wheelhouse and on deck. She will act as a floating museum, devoted to the history of tugs and towage within the London Docklands. Brent has been based in Maldon, Essex since she finished working in the Royal Docks in 1970. She has been in Maldon for 47 years. The fully restored tug will continue to be based where she is now, on the riverfront at Maldon's Hythe. We hope to involve young people in the restoration, operation and preservation of the Brent as much as we can.
Brent has an excellent team of volunteers, who carry out maintenance tasks and preventative work and keep the Brent looking smart. But she needs major repairs, including to the boiler and this will be costly. The Brent Trust will be applying to grant making organisations for this funding.
