Story
Help me raise £500 to sponsor 30 orphaned children in Sierra Leone to provide food, medical care and access to education for a year.
Just £6 can send a child to secondary school for a whole year!
The 'Mustard Seed Foundation Orphanage and Primary School' is home to 30 children aged between 0 to 19 years old, with a functioning Primary School built within the same compound educating over 300 local children.
The MSF Home's Story
The MSF Home was founded in 1998 after local woman, Madam Deborah Freeman (now 86 years old) witnessed the deaths of her children during Sierra Leone's brutal civil war. Rebels had devastated the village and left many children orphaned, these children had suffered severe traumas, loss of family and even left with physical and mental disabilities. Madam Freeman sold all of her possessions after the war to fund the care of these children, many of whom were only one day old when they were rescued and are still residents of the MSF Home to this day. Madam Freeman, along with her daughter, granddaughter and the rest of the surviving Freeman family have saved hundreds of children's lives since the war.
For many children around, this is the only place they have known as their home. One of these children was picked out of a toilet. It is not easy to take care of so many children at such young ages, but with God everything is possible." - Madam Freeman, 2017
The MSF Home is not supported by any local or international charities and relies solely on the good will of local people to get by. I am in the process of registering my own charity to help provide long term, sustainable support to them, but in the meantime I am hoping you will join me in my crowd-funding mission to support these beautiful children.
100% of donations will reach the children
I will be visiting the MSF Home in October 2017, I do NOT use any donations to fund my travel expenses!! 100% of donations will be spent on food, medical supplies and educational resources for all the children.
The district in which the MSF Home is located, Moyamba District, has been recorded by The World Food Programme to have one of the lowest cost of living compared to the rest of Sierra Leone. In Moyamba just £1.20 can buy enough rice to feed all 30 children for a week! Only £6 can send a child to secondary school for a whole year! and just £7 can provide a long lasting, treated mosquito net!
(Figures used from 'Market Price Bulletin Report, Sierra Leone 2017 - The World Food Programme', 'The cost of Living in Sierra Leone Report, 2017 - Expatistan' and ' Develop Africa 2017 Report.')
Please, please donate whatever you can to remind these children that the world cares. On behalf of all the children at the MSF Home, thank you so much for your support <3
