Story
The Redvelopment of the already amazing Nest!
Fawbert and Barnard infant school in Sawbridgeworth opened The Nest in September 2025 - a new multi-sensory and enrichment learning space at the heart of the school. Designed to support, engage and develop pupils with a wide range of special educational, developmental, and emotional needs, The Nest reflects our commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and ambition for every child.
The Nest will provide tailored experiences and opportunities for pupils who need extra support to thrive-offering a calm creative and nurturing environment that responds to individual needs. Over time pupils from across the school will be able to benefit from this space, especially when facing social or emotional challenges during their journey with us.
At the heart of everything F&B do is our mission - To provide an exciting ambitious and unique early education for all.
We respect our pupils as individuals and along with our school community share high ambitions for them. By developing their perseverance, we aim to help them become the best version of themselves and grow their love of learning- whatever obstacles they may face.
The Nest is more than just a space- it is a promise. A promise that we will continue to innovate, include and inspire, so every child knows they belong, and every child can flourish.

At present The Nest can only accommodate a handful of children and our hope is to extend it to help even more pupils that would benefit from additional support.
This is Vida and Owen, 2 of the children currently in The Nest -they are both 4 and have an autism diagnosis. They were both rejected from receiving a place at a local specialist schools.

The local authority and SEN schools have huge issues with capacity and this is a nationwide problem.
Their siblings attend Fawbert and Barnard in Sawbridgeworth and their mum’s (Verity and Charlotte) met in 2023 and became friends.
The amazing F&B team including Mrs Potma (senco) and Verity and Charlotte are now on a fundraising mission to raise as much money as possible for this amazing cause.
”This isn’t just about Vida and Owen, this is about all children and their right to have an education in a setting suitable for their needs.”
