Story
Brecon Festival Ballet is a not for profit company which, in 2019, put on 5 sell out performances of "The Nutcracker" at Theatr Brycheiniog. The full cost of the production was raised through grants and donations.
The ballet was created by Artistic Director Katy Sinnadurai, a former ballet dancer and choreographer based in Brecon. All principal roles are performed by professional dancers, with children's and character roles taken by local dancer students and actors. The Snowflakes chorus is sung by a local choir and the production is accompanied by the Welsh Chamber Orchestra.
Following our success in 2019, we were so looking forward to returning in 2020 to stage 7 performances and to involve the whole community again in our creative work. However we must be realistic and are planning two different scenarios whilst waiting for government guidelines and developments.
1. That the full production goes ahead in December which we believe will only happen if a vaccine becomes available in the Autumn. We would then fast track our rehearsal process to be ready in time.
2. If a full production cannot go ahead, rather than have no performance at all, we would present a smaller "concert style" ballet gala, working with our principal dancers. This would involve some excerpts from "The Nutcracker" and other well known ballet pieces, and a new short ballet which our Artistic Director will create, based on the isolation, frustration and sorrow we are currently experiencing. The gala could have a limited number of social distanced seats and also the potential to be broadcast or recorded for home viewing.
We are doing our best to keep going at this time for the benefit of our audience, our community, and the professional dancers and musicians who have lost all their work and income at this time. Please support us if you can.
