I'm raising £500 by walking an entire marathon on Sunday 19th July, along the Saffron Trail from Leigh-on-Sea to Chelmsford. Although I am a keen hiker, I’ve never walked anywhere near this distance before so I’m excited to do it for the first time! I will be setting off from my home early in the morning and finishing at the end of the day in Chelmsford.

I have been selected to represent Essex Scouts and the United Kingdom on the Iceland 2027 Expedition. This two-week expedition will be taking place in July/August 2027, based at the Úlfljótsvatn Scout Center, approximately 45 miles (70 km) east of Reykjavík.

Scouting exists to encourage the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual development of young people, and to teach resilience, independence and leadership. Expeditions are a key part of a young person’s Scouting experience, enabling them to develop essential life skills and build character through adventurous, team-based, outdoor challenges. These trips improve navigation, physical fitness, and outdoor survival skills — such as cooking and camping — while promoting cultural understanding through international travel, and provide unique, character-building experiences.

Young people taking part in the Iceland 2027 Expedition have been set the challenge of raising a large proportion of the expedition costs through fundraising activities, to increase their awareness of the value of the expedition, while also developing planning, communication, collaboration and teamwork skills, and encouraging creativity in finding ways to raise money.
