Story

Christine Colmer needs your support !

For the last 9 weeks, Christine Colmer has been fighting for her life in intensive care after contracting Covid-19.

Christine was admitted into hospital on Sunday 5th April 2020 with symptoms of Coronavirus. Despite being given oxygen and medical care, she sadly took a turn for the worse on Tuesday 7th April. With her oxygen levels falling dramatically, the doctors had no other choice but to place Christine into an induced coma on full ventilation.

Christine remained on the ventilator and heavily sedated for 31 days, during this time, the family were told several times to prepare for the worst, as the virus was ripping;s way around her body, causing devastation in its wake. However, despite fearing the worst, Christine battled on and the ICU staff battled too. In order to reduce the sedation and begin to bring Christine out of her coma, she was given a tracheostomy.

On May the 8th, doctors started to reduce the level of sedation but Christine didn't respond in the way they were hoping, and it took nearly a week for her to come around.

Christine's children finally got to see their mum via FaceTime for the first time in over 5 weeks.

From waking up until now, Christine has received daily rehab from the amazing rehab team in ICU, which has included visits to the 'secret garden' within Derrirford Hospital grounds.

Christine has fought off endless infections, battled through blood clots, beaten Covid-19, but sadly has been left heavily reliant on ventilation due to the damaged sustained to her lungs and respiratory system.

Christine and her family have been told that it is highly likely a ventilator will be required for the rest of her life, which has obviously shattered the entire family and Christine herself.

Christine's children, Michelle, Paul and Emma are not prepared to accept this and will not give up hope. Therefore they are doing everything they can to change this outcome. The family are in contact with specialists from across the globe and are trying to find the best way to ensure their mother has the best chance of having a better quality of life.

Christine is currently still in ICU at present, but the consultants would like her to move into a rehab centre to continue her recovery journey, with the long term goal being for her to go home - this is where you all come in.......

To allow Christine to go home and be surrounded by her family, her home needs to be completely refitted to meet her needs, she will require 24-hour care and a team for physic rehabilitation.

Christine has served the Plymouth community for most of her life, she has been at the heart of the Wembury community for the last 10 years and has gone above and beyond to help all those around her.

Anyone who knows Christine, knows what a caring and kind hearted person she is, and well thought of and respected pillar of the society.

She now needs your help and support in her hour of need, and now is the time to show that support, to help and assist her on her road to rehabilitation .

Come on, dig deep, and lets get behind her to show her how much she means to us all and those who's she helped along the way previously.

A big thank you in advance for taking the time to read Christine's story, and for your generous donation.

Would you please kindly share to all of your friends, family , and contacts within your Facebook directory and phone list.

Thanks again - Dean.
