Born prematurely, at just over 33 weeks gestation, our little one spent the first 12 weeks in hospital, navigating intensive care and specialized oncology and hematology care.

Thanks to the expertise and life-saving interventions of dedicated professionals, we were able to bring our baby home.

Although not the most interesting aspect of their journey, Theodore was born with Trisomy 21 and a host of complex medical conditions. In those early days, many professionals were uncertain if he would make it home, often presenting a narrative filled with complexities and an uncertain future.

Fast forward to 21 months old, this beautiful soul continues to show the world exactly who he is. Theodore is not defined by complex medical diagnoses or outdated societal views on life with Trisomy 21. Instead, he possess a pure spirit that lights up any room, encouraging others to slow down, smile, and engage.

With an insatiable curiosity about the world around him and a heartwarming smile, he knows his mind well. Theodore is unafraid to express himself or challenge unkindness in the world. Experiencing life differently from neurotypical peers due to significant hypertonia and sensory processing challenges—some stemming from prematurity and long hospital stays—Theodore has faced every health challenge head-on.

Since coming home, he tackles every invasive intervention and hours of therapy with remarkable resilience. Each milestone achieved is a testament to his tenacity—an accomplishment that many may take for granted. Our home is filled with additional equipment, knowledge, and love as we nurture each step forward!

Recently, we have been fortunate enough to work with an incredible specialist team focused on intensive conductive education. The progress made has been astounding; there’s much more laughter filling our home as Theodore learn to navigate their world on his knees while building strength in those legs.

However, specialized equipment and intensive therapy come with significant ongoing costs. As a family that has never asked for financial support before, we find ourselves in a position where many have expressed a desire to help support this beautiful soul’s future opportunities.
