Story

Hello, I'm the founder of The Other Mother

I’m a non-gestational mother living in the UK. I was once in a same-sex marriage that later broke down. After this, the UK Family Courts stripped me of my legal rights to my own children in 2025.

I went from being a recognised mother—named on birth certificates, holding parental responsibility, and caring for my children 50% of the time (post-separation child arrangement order)—to being erased from their birth certificates, losing parental responsibility, and ultimately being restricted to just a few hours a month in a contact centre, despite being a loving and capable parent.

Why? Because I refused to accept the birth mother’s demands to start involving the donor as the "Father" without my consent and he had not been involved before and I had major hesitations about his character and behaviour for good reason, I was then labelled a “risk” to the very children I had raised and all my rights handed over to this donor as a consequence, I was erased over-night, my precious children have lost a loving and committed parent + wider family as a result

It was determined that the children were young enough to understand if there family changed from same-sex family to Mother and now Father family and erase me despite me rearing them since birth and having been married to the birth-mother and been on the birth certificates originally

Why did this happen then? There is a simple explanation.... Discrimination!
