Story

Introducing The People's Pantry helping our communities in and around Pocklington and Market Weighton.

We are a group of people that volunteer to help people who are struggling to make ends meet and we want to help reduce food waste.

With the help of Pocklington District Lions Club we have partnered with FareShare – the UK's largest distributor of donated food to charities and community groups.

We have also partnered with our local Tesco supermarket in Market Weighton and Sainsbury's in Pocklington form which we receive donated food and other products.

We also receive short shelf life fresh products which we give away to people attending a session and to local care homes and special needs groups.

We set up the Pantry three times a week – twice in Market Weighton and All Saints Church every Tuesday 10:30am to 12:30pm and every Friday 4:00pm to 6:00pm and every Wednesday in The Market Street Cafe in Pocklington 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

The Pantry has tables with food and other products on and each table has a number of points usually 5 points table, 10 points table, 15 points table and 20 points table.

Each person that needs help can attend a session and after registering (just once) they pay a £1 membership fee and in return the get 100 points with which they can redeem them for food and other products by taking from the table of their choice up to the value of 100 points.

We are open to anyone who needs help to support and feed themselves or their families.

We are a not for profit volunteer enterprise and we needs funds mainly for publicity so we can print some flyers and start to get them out into the communities so people who need help can find out about us.

Thanks for reading and please try to help if you can and if you do thanks for your support.
