In England, approximately 1.3 million children are eligible to access a free school meal. This initiative can often be a vital lifeline to some of the most vulnerable members of our society, supporting children and families who survive on very little, allowing them to access a hot meal and the essential sustenance they need to merely exist. More so than many of us, over the course of the pandemic, low income households have felt the burden and pinch of these difficult times. Initially, the government bent to pressure and provided support during school holidays for those meeting the requirements of the program, but, unsurprisingly, this has now been withdrawn. At the Pig & Whistle we believe that no child should go hungry; that no child should feel the worry of not knowing where their next meal will come from, and so, we are aiming to provide as much support as we can to those who need it. Nothing too fancy; just good honest grub, or store cupboard staples that will fill your heart as well as your stomach. We are asking for donations to help fund this venture. All proceeds will be put towards ingredients to feed our community either in food packs, or home cooked meals.
