Story
The recent wave of Black Lives Matter protests has highlighted the problem of anti-blackness and racism in the UK. The global pandemic has made social and economic inequality more obvious than ever, as we face the horrific fact that Black people are significantly more likely to die from Covid-19. Statues of slave traders are being pulled down, demands are being made for schools and universities to teach the history of the British empire, and people are being made aware of their own complicity with white privilege. In 2020, it is not enough to simply not be racist, we have to be actively anti-racist.
This is why Vivalasisterhood are hiking 10 miles to raise funds to donate to charities across the UK doing really important work in Black communities. We'll be giving your donations to charities like The Racial Justice Network, based in Yorkshire, who organise against racial injustice through education, workshops and activism, running campaigns like Stop the Scam— to resist the extension of mobile biometrics used in police stop and search connected with Home Office data.
