Myself And Sam Wilks will be taking on an ultra-nonstop endurance challenge across the South Downs Way on 12/05/2023 to help raise money for Reece Payne's lifesaving cancer treatment.

The challenge named There and Back will combine hiking and biking 220 miles along the original South Downs Way non-stop with no sleep.

We will set off on our bikes at 03:00hrs on Friday morning from the White Hart pub (it’s at the base of the South Downs Way) in South Harting. We will head straight up onto the downs and head for Eastbourne. When we arrive in Alfriston we will need to get off our bikes and begin the yomp (in other words hike on foot) to continue on the original South Downs way. This will take us over the famous seven sisters and then finally arrive at Eastbourne. Once there we will turn around and make our way back to South Harting, then carry on to Winchester. When reaching Winchester we will turn around for the final time, making our way to the Start/Finish point back at the White Hart pub in south Harting at approximately 19:00hrs on Saturday evening. Completing the challenge.

This challenge will take approximately 40 hours non-stop with no sleep and we will each burn 30,000 calories in one go.

We have already started specialist training to take on such a challenge. We hope that you can support us and help Reece in his battle against cancer.

Reece needs something called Adoptive Cell Therapy to help save his life. This therapy will significantly decrease how the cancer is spreading and can even stop and kill it completely. It is a form of targeted immunotherapy made with your own blood. It involves directly isolating cells within your immune system. Then activating them and greatly expanding their numbers. These cells are then fed back into the body through a series of injections to boost the body’s ability to fight against cancer. It can also greatly enhance the effects of the chemotherapy he is currently receiving.

This treatment is not available in the UK, it will involve travelling to Japan. Because of the nature of this treatment, it comes at a very high cost. Reece needs to raise £50,000 to get this life-saving treatment.
