Story
"The Refuge" continues to tell the story of Stephanie and her son Kian who escape from an abusive husband and stepfather. In fear for their lives they seek safety; this is a story of hope for their future and seven other women residing in ‘The Refuge.’ It is the follow on from our short film ‘The Edge’ which highlights Stephanie and Kian’s story.
‘The Refuge’ is a story that needs to be told!
Any help, however big or small, to help us raise funds that will allow us to make this important pilot will be greatly appreciated. Overall, we are looking to raise £25,000 to shoot this powerful piece; which will show the pain, endurance and strength of character displayed by these women, children and men. The seed fund of £10,000 which we are hoping to reach on here will be an important start.
Domestic violence does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, religion, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, education or gender.
It can include one, all or several types of abuse happening at the same time; physical, sexual, mental, threats and intimidation, emotional and economic deprivation.

“In a safe house somewhere in London, eight desperate women have escaped years of domestic abuse to re-appraise their lives in the sanctuary of 'The Refuge'. As this contemporary drama series reveals the extraordinary histories of these complex characters, we will also celebrate the courage and acknowledge the fear that will equally dictate their futures. How did they survive? How did they escape? Can they or their children ever be truly liberated? For though they are in safe hands now; each one knows that the next knock at the door to ‘The Refuge’ could be their past coming back to haunt them.”
OUR AMAZING CAST SO FAR...
We are thrilled to announce some of our very talented cast, including Dame Sian Philips, Gary Webster, Noeleen Comiskey and Samantha Seager to name just a few!
This pilot will introduce the vibrant and interesting characters and will set the tone of the piece. These stories are real stories highlighting the vulnerability of these women and their children; peeling back the layers and uncovering some of the darkest days in their lives. You will see their highs and lows and ultimately how they found the courage and strength to leave. 'The Refuge', is a story of hope for a new life, a new beginning. This riveting piece will be developed into an eight part drama/thriller pitch alongside the TV pilot which we will use to approach TV broadcasters. We have never had a unique series of this kind on our screens. The audience for this TV drama/thriller is worldwide, as we all know this is a worldwide problem which needs to be addressed. Having done extensive research for our script to ensure we are reflecting real life in a refuge we are looking to you to support us in our endeavour, contributing to positive change.
By using the power of film DT Film Productions aim to give a voice to the unheard, to highlight social issues, while changing lives and offering hope. This pilot will be a vehicle for raising awareness and will also help to educate.

DIFFICULT TIMES...
We appreciate these are difficult times to be looking for funding, but we feel there is a need for this series to be produced and these important stories to be told. Lockdown has had terrible consequences for so many living with abuse. As you are all aware, the Arts have been hugely impacted by Covid-19 and being a small independent company it has had a huge impact on us too. However, all our films are created with the aim of helping to change lives and to create a better world through TV/Film.
