Story

Open Air Theatre in Lesnes Abbey!

In the summer of 2021 the Ruined Theatre Company will be bringing Our Teacher's a Troll, a play by Dennis Kelly (writer of the smash hit Matilda the Musical!) to the ruins of Lesnes Abbey.

Abbey Wood and Thamesmead have historically suffered from minimal investment and lack of exposure to art & culture. Local resident and professional actress Nancy Sullivan has envisioned a theatre to celebrate the area's natural beauty and bring communities together for the last 10 years and now with theatre also needing help more than ever she believes the two causes can be combined.

Abbey Wood & Thamesmead communities deserve this theatre and celebration. The area has so much natural beauty but suffers from a bad reputation and lack of support, I believe the theatre will bring a real excitement to the area far and wide and as a result help create a new positive narrative for Abbey Wood & Thamesmead.

Not only will the Ruined Theatre provide accessible theatre, jobs and help promote businesses in the local area, it will also provide community outreach work engaging with new audiences and schools so that this theatre truly serves it community first.

HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP

- Bring Abbey Wood & Thamesmead it's first professional theatre!

-Build our giant troll puppet to take our young audiences breathe away!

- Provide 5 weeks mentorship programmes to young local individuals, helping them gain access and knowledge into the arts

- Provide subsidised discounted tickets to local residents within a 1.5 mile radius of the site

- To give 300 free tickets to residents who otherwise would not be able to attend the show in association with Peabody.

-Employ professional creatives after a year out of work due to Covid.

-Allow us to work with local schools to ensure community engagement.

As a C.I.C we are non profit, this means everything goes back into the theatre for the community, we hope this first year is an exciting promise for the years ahead to follow for which we have big plans and hope to grow in ambition each year for our audiences and for the area.
