Story

The loss of sight, either partial of full is a life changing event. We take for granted how we see the world. An accident, in December 2012, had a profound impact on my life, as that was the last time I saw the world through two eyes. Since then two organisations have helped me immensely. The Barraquer foundation in Barcelona pieced me back together and made me look normal again. In the UK Moorfields Eye Hospital have continued their work and have looked after me since. Now it's time to give back.

Some of those who know me know that I like to run. Over the last years I've undertaken some great challenges and enjoyed them all. I particularly like ultra running - long distances over rough terrain. Now in October 2017 I'll be undertaking something new. Along with several other crazy individuals we will set off from southern Morocco and run for two days across the Sahara desert toward the border with Algeria - a distance of 84km through the Draa Valley and dunes of the Western Sahara with temperatures of 35 degree during the day and below freezing at night.

This is an entirely self funded event. But if I'm going to do this I'd like to give something back. So 100% of donations received will be split between these two worthy charities, both of which provide medical services to those who would otherwise go without. The Barraquer foundation has already helped more then 40,000 patients in developing nations, while Moorfields supports patients, hospitals, and research here in the UK.
