Story

In February 2018, Aberdeen local and former Aberdeen Wanderers RFC (AWRFC) Sam Lobban passed away following struggles with his mental health. Since then, Sam's family and close friends have organised The Sam Lobban Trophy as part of a commitment to fundraise for local mental health charities whilst promoting fundamental conversations surrounding mental health, wellbeing, and suicide among young men.

Held annually, the Sam Lobban Trophy is a rugby sevens event that invites teams from across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, and the North of Scotland to compete in a fun-filled afternoon at AWRFC's grounds. As an avid rugby fan and a key part of the AWRFC team for over a decade, the event is a fitting tribute to a much-loved son, brother, nephew, friend, and teammate.

This grassroots event provides a platform for the local community and businesses from across the region to come together to support one of the most pressing issues in Scotland today.
