Story

We go to a WHOPPING £615 in our first round of fundraising but we need a little more to get more young people on skates. This round of fundraising we are fundraising £900 for The Skate Scholarship.

We are Be Good Skates and we love all types of roller skating. We realise that this sport is not accessible to everyone due to cost and other barriers. Our idea is to offer free weekly lessons to children and young people in one of the most deprived areas of Leeds. Some of our team skaters are primary school teachers, and have had over ten years experience working with children and young people in inner-city schools in Leeds.

Be Good Skates would like to offer ten young people between the ages of 10-25, who otherwise might not access roller skating a "Skate Scholarship" which would include:

Good quality roller skates.

All protective equipment - helmet, pads.

Access to free coaching on a weekly basis.

Entry to LS-Ten skatepark.

Advice, support, skate and kit maintenance.

The benefits of roller skating include exercise, increased social engagement, improved mental health and achievable goals.

We will collaborate with LS-Ten charity, Leeds City Council, Get Set Leeds, Leeds Girls Can and other social prescribing services.

We hope to keep young people engaged by offering scholarship "graduates" opportunities to learn how to support other skaters, improving community engagement, and offer them the option to trade in outgrown gear and upgrade equipment when appropriate.

We hope to run the scholarship annually for ten young people.
