Story

We are aiming to raise £10000 so that my brother and I can create a personal and insightful documentary with the working title of 'The Waiting Room'.

The documentary aims to cover everything associated with what it is like to have cancer in the modern age - from interviews with doctors to discussions with patients.

The documentary will follow my father, who is, unfortunately, losing his twelve-year-long battle with cancer. For the past year, my father has been progressively getting worse, and my family and I have had to witness this first hand. However, my father and I believe documenting his last year would make for a fantastic documentary, one which is personal and can not only relate to people in similar situations, but will also aim to educate people on cancer and what can be done to prevent it.

My father is an upbeat and loving person who is 100% supportive of our documentary! Having worked in the medical industry his whole life, from begining his career as a social worker to working with the elderly and people with mental illness, my father has seen it all, and more importantly, has helped so many people! This documentary aims to give something back - a unique insight into the world of cancer. Not to raise awareness of cancer, as everyone knows someone affected by cancer, but rather to document what it is actually like to live with cancer, and how it effects friends and family, and what can be done to prevent it. This documentary will follow my father up untill his passing. This is a very personal documentary and a story which I feel needs to be told.

Having had publicity on BBC radio Suffolk, in terms of having a discussion on air about the documentary and also having been asked to document the creation of the film through monthly audio recordings on BBC Radio Suffolk, we truly believe this is a story worth sharing, and one which everyone can relate to.

As you can imagine planning a documentary is not an easy task, and funding is of the greatest importance right now. Funding will enable us to get professional equipment so that we can not only produce this worthwhile documentary, but also so that we can create future documentaries focussing on meaningful and unique stories.

Any additional funds raised will be donated to cancer related charities and research.

I have attached an article that was published in the suffolk free press, so that you can read more about the documentary if you wish.

Thank you for taking the time to read our proposal and I look forward to hearing from all of you!
