Story
Each year, 8000 people sleep rough on the streets of London. Relationship breakdown, redundancy, poor mental health, alcohol/substance addiction and domestic abuse, are just some of the reasons people can end up homeless.
Benefit cuts, increased rents, the housing crisis and increased migration, along with cuts in funding to vital services, mean that people sleeping rough has increased in recent years. During one night in Autumn 2011, 446 people were recorded as sleeping rough in London, compared to 964 in 2016 - an increase in 116% in 5 years.
When asked, two-thirds of rough sleepers had been insulted by a member of the public, with one in ten saying they had been urinated on.
Each Winter Package will contain a Thinsulate thermal hat, gloves and a pair of 2.3 tog insulated thermal socks by Heat Control. With thanks to a UK wholesale site, we were able to cost each package down to just under £5. So, you donate £5, and we're able to give one more person a bit of extra warmth this Winter.
The Warmer Streets Project was started after realising that homelessness is never far away from any of us, especially here in London. We’ll be taking our thermals out directly as well as distributing to some of South London’s shelters. We're not a charity, and therefore we can't claim Gift Aid, but every penny of your money will go towards the Winter Packages. Any additional costs incurred, including travel, are supported by our own pockets.
Thank you so much for your support - It means the absolute world.
Please keep a look out for our new website, where you can see what we're doing and donate to us directly.

The Warmer Streets Project
6 years agoA huge thank you to everyone who has supported us. Since starting the project, we've discovered that the need is great all year round, therefore, we're very happy to say that The Warmer Streets Project will be turning into a non-profit organisation, where you can donate all year. We wish the need for organisations like us wasn't needed, but until the root causes of homelessness are tackled, organisations like us and the ones we work with are hugely important.
