The Way of Saint James for Jacob!

Hi everyone, hope you are having a beautiful day.

On August 18th, Spain and Poland was meant to meet in the famous city of Porto to take the 8 day - 230km long journey along the great Portuguese route of Camino de Santiago!

Spain was meant to be represented by me, whereas from Poland my friend Karolina was meant to join me to follow this route.

Unfortunately, Karolina has injured her leg and I will be going on my own. It will now be even bigger challenge but it’s all for a higher cause so totally worth it.

I dedicate the journey to Karolina’s cousin, Jacob and his mother, whom I want to help with their everyday struggles.

Jacob is 27 years old and is suffering from tuberous sclerosis accompanied by autism and drug-resistant epilepsy. Since Jacob was 10 months old, he has been treated with various drugs. Additionally, he has been on a ketogenic diet for 18 years. Despite the use of all these measures, epileptic seizures continue to occur. What's more, Jacob unfortunately does not speak and contact with him is difficult.

Jacob is dependent and needs constant care and help of another person. That person is his mother, who is with him 24/7. Jacob needs systematic treatment, occupational therapy and rehabilitation, which in effect are associated with high costs.

His mum is a full-time, sole guardian for Jacob. The funds that she receives (social pension and care allowance) from the government and financial help from the family are often not enough to cover basic costs. That is why we are organizing this fund raising to finance occupational therapy, rehabilitation and physiotherapeutic classes for Jacob. The monthly cost is from PLN 800 upwards (approx. £160) and Jacob’s mum can’t afford it due to limited resources.
