Story

After some rudimentary investigations into facilities in the South East London area for children in wheelchairs (which in my opinion should include their Brothers & Sisters) I found it sadly, to be lacking. No fun, No Smiles, No laughter. How many times have your own children brought warmth to your heart on a cold day? How many wrinkle lines (although not so welcome) adorn your face due to laughter because your Son or Daughter has said or done something funny. The value of a rich loving family environment is truly immeasurable and for your child enhances their ability to interact with others intellectually and prepares them for later life. I care so passionately about bringing these beautiful yet sometimes isolated and lonely children together. To not only have fun with the usual exciting energetic games like table tennis, basketball and so on but also with more creative, cerebrally enticing projects which needless to say spike their interest with a different element of learning and fun like The Arts, crafts and other projects which the children choose themselves. It is through the complex medium of these cerebral challenges that they cement relationships to other children in wheelchairs, they see the similarities in each other, they build unique comradery patterns and friendships are made, often times friendships which can last a lifetime. As a mother of a 9 year old child with Spina Bifida, I,ve seen dramatic changes in my little angel over the years as a direct result of not having a support network of other children that use wheelchairs. In 2014 at the University of Colorado, a study found that groups of people that looked more like ourselves and who were similar in appearance were more likely to be receptive to friendships and generally seemed to initiate social interactions with each other far quicker. I feel that this is a very positive idea and thus far have had a really encouraging range of enquiries from the BBC, SKY NEWS, and many other big media and news outlets. The money raising element is a given, we have to pay some bills and buy stuff, that's the easy part really. We also need some training for our volunteers so we can reach the point our Mums/ Dads/ Carers can leave their young ones and go have so much needed respite.

Thank you Emma XX
