Story

After taking up running in 2013 and competing at distances from 5km up to marathon level for the first 2-3 years, I wanted to push my physical and mental limits, seeking my breaking point. I always loved to challenge myself and take myself out of my comfort zone.

To date I have completed a number of ultra-marathons including mountain/trail ultra-marathons, Dublin to Belfast Ultra (107 Mile), 24 hour runs, and my biggest challenge and longest run to date was competing in a Last One Standing Event in 2022, achieving 37 hours, covering 155.4 miles.

On my bucket list next was a single stage 200 mile + ultra-marathon, and over the last few years of following the Race Across Scotland 215 mile, my burning ambition got the better of me...

My main driving forces and motivation to complete this challenge include:

Watching in amazement my sister living with Cerebral Palsy & Alopecia on a daily basis and the challenges she faces. She is my inspiration to drive myself to beyond my limits as she has proven that nothing can stop you as she has completed Parkruns, 5km races and is a regular in her local gym.

Having tragically lost my 3-year-old nephew to a brain tumour last year, this was and continues to be heart-breaking for all the family. Subsequently, this highlighted the need for support for families experiencing similar heartache. I would like to raise money and awareness for The Big C Foundation NI, a local charity which has been set up in memory of our Callum.”

If I can raise some money in return for me to endure a small amount of hurt and suffering over 215 miles on the Southern Upland Way, then it will all be worth it.
