Story
Grade II* listed Thorrington Mill, run by Thorrington Tide Mill Trust, is one of only three remaining working tide mills in the UK. Recently added to the Historic England buildings at risk register, this important local landmark urgently needs funds to preserve the life of the mill for future generations to enjoy, improve access and education materials for visitors, and create an environment and infrastructure for local community volunteers.
The building is at risk of loss due to water undermining the brickwork and damaging the adjacent retaining dam wall. Water is also eroding the bridge and roadway threatening the stability of the surrounding land. Major works are needed to restore the wheelhouse, sluice gates and the outer fabric of the building.
