Chrissie's Sunshine Appeal and the story around it has resonated with the whole Newquay community so we started wondering what we could do to help this excellent charity appeal.

As members of Lusty Surf Life Saving Club, we're all keen swimmers and last year enjoyed our first open water event - the Crantock Biathlon. This year we've decided to combine these two passions of swimming and love for Newquay by creating and completing what we've called the 'Newquay Three Bay Challenge'. (We think it's a first!?)

On Saturday, July 13 at 12pm (conditions permitting), Matt, Simon and Jake will be swimming the length of Newquay's three main bays in one go, from West Pentire to Pentire Headland, then swimming from South Fistral to Towan Headland before finishing with a swim from Newquay Harbour to Lusty Glaze beach - running over the headlands that separate each swim stage.

The planned route is below. The Red line shows the swim stages (approx 2.5 miles) while Blue are the transition runs (approx 1.5 miles). Essentially, we'll be starting just below the Bowgie Inn and finishing at Lusty Glaze (hopefully in time, and with the energy, to join our Lusty Surf Life Saving Club Nippers and Dolphins, where we are coaches).

While we're keen swimmers, none of us would classify ourselves as elite in any way, so for us, the Three Bay Challenge is a very real and tough one. Training is already underway.

Firstly, we want to be able to complete the challenge and secondly we want to raise as much money doing so as possible for Chrissie's Sunshine Appeal.

All donations, any amount, for our Three Bay Challenge are gratefully received and will go an awful long way in spurring on these three amateur Newquay swimmers in their efforts to swim, and run, the length of all three Newquay Bays.
