Story

UPDATE: Due to multiple members of the group falling ill the day before the walk was due to take place , it has had to be postponed until April next year, with the exact date still to be confirmed.

Zoe, Haffa, Michaela, Niall and Jake are taking part in the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge on October 14th and are collectively raising money which will then be split between individual charities that mean something to each of them.

These charites are British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK, PSP Association and Heart Line Families.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24-miles long, and includes 5,200ft (1,585m) of ascent.

British Heart Foundation: They are the nation's heart charity and the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. Coronary heart disease is the UK's single biggest killer but they are leading the fight against it. Their pioneering research has helped to transform the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. https://www.bhf.org.uk

Diabetes UK: About 90 per cent of people with diabetes have Type 2 diabetes. It can come on slowly, usually over the age of 40. The signs may not be obvious, or there may be no signs at all, therefore it might be up to 10 years before you find out you have it. That’s why it’s very important to know the risk factors and find out your risk, so you can do something about it. https://www.diabetes.org.uk

Heartline Families: Heartline supports children with heart disorders and their families, whatever the condition, wherever it is treated. Heartline Families is a charity which is made possible by the hard work and dedication of volunteers (from the newsletters, caravan holidays, wetsuits, to social media, informations guides, adventure holidays and so much more). https://www.heartline.org.uk

The PSP Association is the only UK charity dedicated to helping people with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration. PSP is a degenerative brain disease which robs people of their ability to walk, talk, eat, drink and see. Patients become trapped in their bodies unable to communicate whilst remaining alert. The cause of PSP is unknown. There is no treatment and no cure. More than 10,000 people in the UK suffer from the disease. PSPA provide practical and emotional support to sufferers of PSP and fund research to improve the lives of people affected by PSP and CBD. https://www.pspassociation.org.uk
