Story
Hello Everyone!
*Please read my status on my profile for the full story*
As many of you know I am currently working in Kenya on an orphanage project and so far it seems their Christmas traditions are very different to ours. I have been to a couple of orphanages but I am mainly based at two different organisations which do not receive any form of funding beyond volunteer donations.
These children are happy, they have each other but of course that does not mean they are exempt from struggles. One orphanage in particular is severely struggling financially. Thirty children will sleep in a tiny room, on a cold stone floor, without a mattress and enough blankets. The children's uniforms are worn and they lack stationary to write with. Whilst I was teaching, the children would use their pencils until you literally could not sharpen it anymore because it was too short to fit into the sharpener.
This one orphanage in particular called 'The Friends of Orphans for Hope Organisation' I visit is in desperate need of mattresses and blankets.
My request is twofold, first to provide some sustainable funds for essential items that will have a significant impact on the lives of the orphan children. In particular they are in desperate need of mattresses and blankets (they have none, they simply sleep on the stone floor). If we raised $1000 in total for this part of the appeal half the children would be able to have a blanket and mattress.
Second, I’d like to provide little gifts for them on Christmas day. All I am asking is for you to just donate a few dollars. I promise you it will be worth it and it can be a generous amount to only a few dollars.
Looking into their faces and getting to know these children over the last few months has made me realise just how lucky I am. Trust me when I say this, donating even $5 for a pair of shoes will make these kids so surprised and I will show you the happiness you can bring these children from the money you donate.
