I'm raising £1000 to support a community football club

Story

When I set out at the turn of the year with the goal of running 10k a day in January, I never thought I'd be in reach of the North Pole!

But through stubbornness, encouragement and good luck with my health, I am closing in on completing 3,000 miles - the approximate distance from my home in Bridgnorth to the North Pole - in 2025. So I decided to turn my challenge into a fundraiser.

I'm aiming to raise £1,000, with every penny donated to Bridgnorth Spartans FC. Why this cause? At the age of 54 and a long-retired Sunday League 'shuffler', I never thought I'd experience the joy of scoring a goal again. But that's exactly what happened when I joined the Spartans walking football team. From primary school age to pensioners, girls and boys teams, men's and ladies sides, this club proves what a real community is, with some 600 players.

So I decided to combine my passions for running, football and my local community and give something back for the sporting pleasure I have had over the years to raise this sum.

Every penny raised will go towards buying a marquee at the club's new ground in Norton, which can be used for all age groups.
