A contemporary dance piece pulling disability into focus and putting it centre stage. This dance piece is looking at the true inclusion of disability within dance and stereotypical masculinity as well as bullying to highlight the issues and pressures boys and men can face by peer pressure and group dynamics. The disability will become the main movement vocabulary for the entire company.
I want to create awareness of that we are still uncomfortable with looking at disability and though we tolerate it, we avoid it rather than embrace it. I want to question why and what it is that creates this discomfort. I would like to create a platform for disability to shine and to become the star/ main attraction.
Another aim is to employ young artists at the beginning of there career and to create a performance opportunity in front of a life audience as well as the chance to collaborate and experience the challenges of disability first hand.
It matters to me having met Josh, the disabled comedian at a chance meeting in Liverpool Street falling in love with his energy and physicality which inspired me to create a unique and original piece of art. I also want to create something meaningful and push boundries.
In terms of my career it is important since I have done loads of commercial work as well as plays and musical theatre and feel I neglected the artist within and contemporary dance. Presenting Quaestio at Resolution 2017 enables us to perform in an established contemporary dance venue and theatre and to make a mark and name for myself.
