Story

Toby James World Scout Jamboree

Hi I’m Toby, I’m in Year 10 at Alcester Academy and in my spare time I am part of Monkey’s Fist Explorers Scout Group in Alcester.

A couple of months ago, I applied for the 2023 World Scout Jamboree in Saemangeum, South Korea. The World Scout Jamboree is an international camp, where thousands of Scouts from all over the world meet. They do lots of activities, make new friends, try new food, and all in all have an amazing time. I applied and was asked to go to the selection day!

The selection day was full of team building activities, which included teaching a skill, spaghetti tower, toxic waste challenge and building a shelter. Finally we moved onto the final task which was to make a promise to the planet. This included learning about the environment and how we can save it.

3 days later, whilst I was doing homework, I received a phone call and was told that I had made it through and had been selected to go to the Jamboree! I was so excited, and just about held it together whilst on the phone. After the call ended I started running round the house, screaming, and crying with happiness. This was my dream, and this was a once in a life time opportunity. I am so happy and so grateful for the chance to go. The camp is about three weeks long. I feel so privileged and excited and cannot wait to go!

I now need to raise £3500 to fund the trip. I will be doing a number of things in the next year – cake sales, sponsored bike rides and other activities. I would really appreciate your support by donating on this page. Thank you for reading!
