Story

A few months ago, 12 year old Ashton was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his lower leg. It is a rare cancer which affects only 50 children in the UK every year. After two cycles of intensive chemotherapy the tumour stubbornly refused to shrink. The decision was taken that a through knee amputation would be the best option to enable Ashton to recover and get back to doing what he loves most - Sport. Ashton is a goal keeper and signed to Crewe Alexandra Under 12s. He’s also a talented cricketer but whatever the sport he gives it his all. Whilst the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan would have floored most of us, Ashton has approached it all with the same attitude that he applies to his sports; determination, resilience, humour and a desire to win. The boy is a warrior! The type of prosthetic that Ashton will need to give him the most natural range and motion, costs upwards of £40k. This cost then continues as it needs to be maintained and replaced throughout his life, especially as he grows. Any donation you can make will count enormously to keeping those sporting dreams alive for Ashton and help Ashton’s Mum and Dad to support him and give him the care he needs. Please follow Ashton’s journey on instagram ‘back_between_the_sticks’ It‘s truly inspirational. The love and support Ashton and his family have received from friends and strangers alike, is testament to the amazing person he is.
