50/50 for The child Growth Foundation (CGF) and the children's sister school in Kenya, Our Lady of Consolation (OLC).
CGF - Is a charity that has helped us as a family. It supports and encourages families effected by growth and endocrine conditions, funds and encourages research and treatment, educate the public and advise medical professional on how to work with effected families, and how to monitor and refer children with suspected conditions.
OLC - Life is very different for a child in poverty living in kenya. Things we take for granted like regular meals, clean water, comfy beds, secure homes, adaquate clothing and school places cannot be taken for granted. The children receive 1 basic meal per day and receive this at school provided by the charity that supports the school. drinking water in the village is new and has been recently funded. Children walk for miles in all weathers to go to school, Waking very early. Books, teachers, crayons etc, cost money. More money raised in time can provide more food, water sources, more school places.
The children will do a sponsored ski. Toby will ski the height of Everest (8,848m). Daisy height if mont blank (4,810.) The ski run at Mendip is 165m. The distance they will try to ski does not include travelling up to the very top of the slopes after each run. Each run will involve using the button lift to get to the top (the achiest part of all). It will be completed in any weather (except torrential rain) over a weekend (attempt 1 day) in the mood they wake in.
Both have found skiing challenging for different reasons. For Daisy its her confidence and stamina and for Toby having the muscle in his legs to maintain the skiing position and the endurance to complete. He has low muscle mass, tone, poor core strengh, hypermobile behind knees and tight hamstrings. He has received physical therapy input on and off since birth. He is due to be signed off again. Both have not skied for a while. They will need lots of practice.
