Story

Hi I'm Toby, I'm 14, and I'm doing a sponsored push on 2nd April to raise money for a Melrose defence wheelchair rugby chair.

I'm going to push 91 laps of a wheelchair rugby court, which is 7,800m as the chair I need costs £7,800

I love wheelchair rugby. It is brilliant fun – I love the tactics, the in-play strategies, the fast-paced nature of games and the teamwork. It gives me a sense of freedom. It allows me to achieve my goals and to meet other people who are like me, not just at my club, but at tournaments.

I recently won best in class at a 4s tournament, where my team won promotion, and at a 3x3 tournament, so I can't wait to see what I can achieve if I have the right chair.

Unfortunately, the only chair the Club could borrow of the right size to enable me to train and play is an attack chair, which is heavier and harder to push and more difficult to stop the opponent’s attackers with. A defence chair that fits me well would enable me to avoid injuries (to my back and shoulders), elevate my game further, and improve my defence skills, enabling me to better help the Team. My ultimate goal is to see if I can get to international level.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I have also applied to some charities for help and any funds raised in excess of the cost of the chair will be donated to The Makeway Foundation.
